A little about Mrs. J...
My name is Belinda Jacobs, and this is my 8th year of teaching at CRHS, my 14th in the science classroom. This year I will be teaching Astronomy, Applied Biology, Applied IPC, and Applied Aquatic Science. I am excited for what the new year will bring!
A little about me:
I grew up in Pflugerville, graduating from PHS in 1992-and now my children are graduating from my alma mater! After initially majoring in Bioengineering right out of high school, I switched gears and graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a B.S. in Elementary Education (1-8), concentrating my coursework in the sciences and language arts. I hold certification in Elementary Education(1-8), Special Education(1-12), and Science(8-12). I completed graduate work at Mississippi State University, earning my M.S. in Geosciences in August of 2011. This picture was taken summer 2011 on my final capstone field course in western Washington state. We were excited to be in snow while hiking Mt. Rainier in July!
I will have been married for 22 years in November to my college sweetheart, and we have two children--a 2018 graduate and a senior! When I am not at school, I enjoy singing/performing, playing guitar, reading books, traveling/camping/exploring with my family, hugging my nephews, working out and competing with my CrossFit family, promoting autism awareness, and, of course, exploring everything to do with the earth sciences. We recently traveled to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone NP. We saw AMAZING sites! This summer was devoted to graduation celebrations and college visits for my soon-to-be second high school graduate! I also serve as stage manager for my daughter's ballet company, the Austin City Ballet, and the past 6 years have driven my ballerina all over the state and country for auditions and summer intensives (in addition to our almost daily classes), so we keep pretty busy! I am currently serving my term as the President of the National Earth Science Teachers Association (NESTA) and work with colleagues all over the country to promote Earth science education in K-12.
My primary goal this year is not only to prepare my students for future science success, but to encourage a desire for lifelong learning. I also want to help my students in whatever ways I can in their transition from high school to post-secondary life. I am looking forward to a wonderfully successful year!
